Role Purpose:
To help young people aged 13-19 years old to fulfil their potential, improving their skills and providing new opportunities.

Mentoring:

Mentoring is part of the Connexions Service. Voluntary mentors are recruited from a wide variety of backgrounds and are willing to devote regular time to supporting young people.

They:
  • Work on a one-to-one basis with young people aged 13-19 who may be facing a

         variety of problems

  • They offer appropriate help and support

  • They arrange meetings on a regular basis to develop a purposeful, open and

          trusting relationship

  • Qualities:

All mentors will be given training before being matched with a young person.

Support will be available from the Mentoring Co-ordinator.

    The Selection procedure:
Due to the nature of the work, there has to be some formality to recruitment and selection of mentors even though it is a voluntary activity. All volunteers will be asked to complete an application form, provide references and attend interviews.
